Sunday evening is the wrong finish line

Every sprint has the same shape. Friday evening people walk in half strangers. Sunday afternoon they demo something that did not exist 36 hours earlier. Then everyone goes home and the event is over.

Except that is the least interesting part. What I care about is what is still there on Wednesday.

Three things survive the weekend

The first is proof. Not a trophy, proof. You shipped a working thing, under time pressure, with people you had just met, for a company with a real problem. Most people never get to find out they can do that. Once you know it, you cannot un-know it.

The second is the people. Teams that click at 3am do not un-click on Monday. Some keep building. Some found companies. Some just become the people you call when you are stuck. That is worth more than the prize money, and it is the part nobody puts on a slide.

The third is the record. What you built, what your role was, who you built it with. Almost every event throws this away. The weekend ends, the Devpost link rots, and six months later you cannot prove any of it happened.

That last one is a product problem

The first two happen on their own if the weekend is good. The third does not. It only exists if someone deliberately builds it, and that is a large part of why we built our own platform instead of renting one.

One profile that follows you across events. What you actually built, attached to it. Teams that persist instead of dissolving on Sunday, so a group that worked can apply to the next thing together without starting from zero. Clubs and communities that live between sprints rather than only during them.

None of that is glamorous. It is plumbing. But it is the difference between a weekend you remember and a track record you can point at.

Why this is the whole thesis

I wrote a line down once and it stuck: create opportunities for people who will go on to create opportunities for others. A sprint that ends on Sunday creates a memory. A sprint that leaves you with proof, people, and a record creates the next thing.

That is what we are optimising for. The weekend is the visible part. The bridge out of it is the point. Our next sprint is 9 to 11 October in Zurich, and applications are open until 20 September.
